MAKE ROUTINES, NOT RESOLUTIONS

Happy 2022 FitFam! You made it through the first month of the year and we hope it was a successful one.

Also Happy Lunar New Year as we enter the Year of the Tiger which represents strength, bravery, and wisdom.

New Year's resolutions quickly fade around this time of year. The gym crowds start to dwindle and people start reverting back to their old habits. True success comes when we make new routines instead of resolutions. Routines do take some planning effort, so here's a few tips:

PLAN YOUR WORKOUTS

Planning your workouts for the week is a great way to increase accountability.

Mixing a variety of workout disciplines can be beneficial for your body and keep your routine fresh.

Make a schedule of which days will focus on strength training, cardio, and mobility/flexibility. There are only so many hours in the week - be sure to factor in the length of time for each type of workout for the most efficient schedule.

PLAN YOUR MEALS

Let's face it, time seems to be going quicker lately and this leads to an increasingly busier lifestyle. Meal planning and prepping is one of the most effective ways to achieve your fitness goals - whether its weight gain, weight loss, or general health and wellness.

Having a consistent plan for your meals throughout the week removes the guess work and helps keep us on track. For increased energy and muscle growth - consider adding easily digestible carbs and reducing fats before and after workouts. Starchy carbs like rice, bread, and pasta are faster acting and ideal for before or immediately after workouts. However the biggest carbs in your diet should be non-starchy carbs like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Other key factors in your meal plan include limiting processed foods, enjoying plenty of lean protein, and staying hydrated.

PLAN A BACKUP WORKOUT

Plans change, things come up, but don't let your routine suffer.

Having a Plan B for your workout routine is another way to increase accountability and consistency.

PLAN FOR R&R

This last part is just as important as the others. Proper rest and relaxation are key to your recovery.

Consider planning your rest days to include time for self care and mental wellness. Whether its relaxing on the couch, sitting in nature, or yoga/meditation, hitting the reset button will pay off big time each week.
